Following success at the 2009 UK Packaging Awards when DS Smith Packagng became Environmental Company of the Year, its speciality plant in Belper has won the Gold Standard Green Apple Award in recognition of an innovation project called "The Environmental Benefits of Cool Corrugating. DS Smith Packaging also achieved the Green Apple bronze awards: one for a significant lowering of energy consumption at DS Smith Packaging Louth and the other for major reductions in water consumptions and trade effluent discharge at Lockerbie.
Tony Foster, Director of DS Smith Packaging, commented; "These show very clearly that our efforts to move towards sustainable systems of production are paying off. As anyone involved in this type of process will know, this is a long process but it has business wide benefits. We are thrilled to have won these awards; they give recognition to many hard working dedicated people and show our customers that we are committed to increasing efficiency in a sustainable manner".
