Less cost less carbon

Designers at DS Smith Corrugated Fordham, with their long experience in value engineering, recently put the technical tools within the DesignRight tool kit to good use. The result was an improved pack for a leading stationery wholesaler who uses a machine erect sleeve to protect products delivered by mail order.

Using DesignRight, the Fordham team replaced a double wall sleeve with a thinner, single wall “Super C” flute, which protects the products just as well. A staggering 55% more sleeves can now be delivered on each pallet, so that there are fewer pallets to unload and less storage is needed for packaging. What’s more, fewer lorries are needed for deliveries.

Fordham has also seen improved machine running speed and reduced process waste. A great example of how DS Smith Packaging is working with customers to reduce costs and environmental impact - by design.
