Unique Makro pack from DS Smith Packaging

DS Smith Packaging was asked by tissue maker, Peter Grant Papers, to create a pack for their new range of paper towels for Makro customers. The main problem with the previous packaging was that it used shrinkwrapping to make the products visible to the customer but, as a result, the box lacked strength and too many towels were being crushed and scrapped.
DS Smith Packaging’s first step was to eliminate the need for plastic by designing a tray with a corrugated lid. The clever idea was to print an exact likeness of the products on the surface so that, to all appearances, it looks as though the product is right there to touch, although the pack’s still sealed.
The customer knows exactly what he or she is getting, can access the product by simply removing the lid and recycle the entire pack when used. The die-cut lid has special features that lock it into place. This stops the pack being opened in store, whether accidentally or otherwise.
Peter Grant not only has a new range of attractive packs for Makro, but has also improved environmental credentials by removing plastic, reducing product wastage by 90% and cutting the number of lorry movements in the supply chain. To cap it all, sales have increased by 24%!
